My eyes well with water everytime I see people making a positive change in the world or creating something I think of at the time as magical.
This happened right before writing this when finding out Dua Lipa is a profound interviewer of authors in a video on a newly started Youtube channel(1). First off seeing how well the famous pop star formulated her questions and engaged with the author she was interviewing was magical. But then realising this video, as well as all the curated clips demonstrating the stark contrast between Dua Lipa and other interviewers, was only the second to be made by this channel was inspiring and added to the magic. With these two things on my mind I felt my eyes well up again.
It feels like my body is yearning to create, to give and to make good in the world. Almost like a change radar.
My change radar goes off when a co-worker organises an evening to raise awareness for endometriosis, when the ‘BAMF’ of the day on the Phillip DeFranco show ensures a corner of his store is looks like the closed down video rental shop to keep a person with down syndrome from having to change their routine(2), or when I go and see a community come together to protest hateful actions against the LGBTQIA+ community(3).
Additionally my change radar fogs up my eyes when I see the fireworks at Disney (don’t judge) thinking about how a group of people came together to create something so magical, when hearing the harmony in ‘96000’ when the whole chorus comes together in Lin Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights(4), or when I hear the harmonies of Pasifika families at graduation ceremonies proud of their family member's achievements.
Even when what makes me tear up is an emotional moment in a show, play, song or movie my thoughts instantly turn to ‘how did they invoke such an emotion?’ and thus can be attributed to my change radar.
It seems my change radar is pointing toward creating something that invokes magic and wonder while also inspiring and creating positive change within the world.
With all the recent happenings in the world I wonder if anyone else has this same phenomenon? As if there is a want/need that their body is telling them about in such a way? I consider this step toward the direction my change radar is pointing and hope that reading this maybe someone else notices or thinks about this phenomenon too. If you do, I’d love to chat!
The change radar may lead us to do something good.
